Project Notes
This 3,500 SF townhouse renovation on Chestnut Street in Beacon Hill, designed by Garrow Kedigian, is a complete gut transformation that blends historic character with bold, highly personalized interiors. The project reimagines a tight urban floor plate into a richly layered home, introducing modern systems, including a discreet pneumatic elevator, while preserving the scale and elegance of a classic Beacon Hill residence. Throughout, meticulous craftsmanship is evident in the custom millwork, refined architectural detailing, and curated use of luxury materials.
A defining feature of the home is its expressive use of color. A dramatic red tartan room pays homage to the homeowner’s Scottish family heritage, pairing vibrant Fine Paints of Europe finishes with plaid wall treatments and tailored built-ins. Elsewhere, a sophisticated palette of yellows and blues unfolds in varying saturations and sheens, creating depth and continuity from room to room. Formal and informal living spaces are thoughtfully composed, balancing warmth, light, and texture with bespoke furnishings and carefully integrated lighting.
The renovation extends beyond the interiors to a complete reworking of the rear of the property. An underutilized backyard was transformed into a functional and elegant outdoor environment, featuring a new two-car garage, a brick patio with a fountain, and a striking French steel bow window that anchors the lower level. Inside, the kitchen showcases custom blue cabinetry, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and a sculptural metal hood, seamlessly connecting to new living and dining areas and a secondary entrance that enhances everyday livability.
